March 31st, 2010

Also known as Golu Kola and Indian Pennywort, Centella Asiatica is a herb possessing natural antiseptic properties. It is a vital ingredient in the Calendulis Plus Cream.  Centella Asiatica was traditionally used to treat a multitude of conditions ranging from leprosy and gonorrhoea, to delay aging and to minimise female problems such as amenorrhoea.  It has also been used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis for hundreds of years.

Today it is used to treat inflammations and burns.  It will also improve the healing properties of wounds, which are healing poorly.  Postoperative scarring can also be reduced by the use of Centella Asiatica.

Centella Asiatica is still considered an effective form of treatment in eczema and psoriasis.  The plant leaves are powdered and used in an ointment, which can be used topically on the effected skin.  It is the antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, which are most beneficial to the eczema and psoriasis sufferer.
